Starting a Home Business – How Cynicism is Keeping You in Your Day Job

The American Heritage Dictionary® defines Cynicism as "An attitude of scornful or jaded negativity, especially a general distrust of the integrity or professed motives of others". Why is this important to know? I think it's critical to understand because this negativity and distrust is holding you back. It's keeping you in the daily grind working for someone else. It's easy to understand how you may have gotten this way. I was in your shoes at one time. Maybe you've wasted money or time on the empty claims of some business opportunity. Maybe our culture of advertising overload has beaten you numb with countless offers. How we may have arrived at this point is really irrelevant. It's what you choose to do about it that makes all the difference.

If you're reading this you have probably tried to create a home business in the past and it did not prove successful. Right there is reason enough to be cynical. The critical point to remember though is that you chose to dream large and make an effort to improve your situation. The crime as I see it is that this lack of instant success weights on us. It makes deciding on trying something new all that more difficult. Once our trust is canceled it's extremely challenging to open up and trust again.

This building up of cynicism now becomes our largest obstacle to success. It's no longer a matter of whether or not you have the motivation. It's no longer a matter of having the skills and tools to make it. It does not matter any longer if your desire to grow, to learn, to make more of yourself keeps nagging at you. Without eliminating the cynicism that's accumulated, none of these things make a difference. You need to overcome the negativity and allow yourself to trust again. Will you get burned? Maybe. Will you waste hard-earned money and valuable time? Perhaps. But where will you be a year from now if you do not dare to let the dream out one more time? How will you ever get out of the daily grind you're in if you do not take another leap of faith? The simple truth of the matter is that you will not.

Overcoming your cynicism has got to be the first step. It's been said by countless self-improvement gurus and motivational icons that persistence is the number one attribute for success. Hitting a problem over and over with your efforts is the surest way to solving it. There's not a problem in the world that can resist indefinitely your persistent will to overcome. There's not a goal that can be imagined that can not be reached if you have a laser focus and persistently work at it. It may sound like a cliche but there's a very good reason why something becomes a cliche ….. because it's true.

So do yourself the biggest favor you can. Let go of the negativity. There are always going to be people out there spreading it around and hoping you join them in misery. Take yourself out of that cycle and let yourself trust the motivations of people who are offering to help. Believe that there are people out there that want you to succeed. There are companies in the network marketing industry that have everything to gain by your success. Find one that you can believe in and allow yourself to trust again.
